Peace or Stress?

IMG_2899Greetings all,

I had an interesting experienced over the last few weeks. We have remodeled our master bedroom. In order for us to do this we had to move our bedroom into our living room. You want to talk about visual disorder and a feeling of stress.

How easy it is for us to let things kind of get out of control. I really did not have a choice about moving all of our stuff out to the living room but how it affected me was really interesting. I had a hard time sleeping and when I did sleep it was without true rest. I woke up just as sleepy as I went to bed. I remember waking up with clinched fist and a clinched jaw.

It really got me thinking about how when our lives get cluttered spiritually we experiences a lack of peace and rest. What do I mean by spiritually cluttered? Well, it really comes down to priorities in your life. Is Jesus number one? If not then your spiritual life is cluttered with things that are not in order. It seems like we ask God for peace but we have a hard time giving Him the control to give us that peace. So we try to go on in life without true rest.

Well, we have almost finished the project and we are back in our room and have cleaned up a little around the house. When we did this the feelings of stress and disorder was changed to that of one of peace. I really did not think that it had affected me until I felt the rush of peach and calm take over. I noticed that our kids were wanting to hang out in the room and our cats were like finally a place to relax (like they need to relax, its not like they really have a stressed out life). As I was thinking about all this I asked myself, Why is this so peaceful and restful? Is it because it’s like a new room? I think it is because things were back in order. I wounder why we think that we can make this life peaceful without Jesus being the center of our lives?

“He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation; because by Him everything was created, in heaven and on earth, the visible and the invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities–all things have been created through Him and for Him. He is before all things, and by Him all things hold together. He is also the head of the body, the church; He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, so that He might come to have first place in everything. For God was pleased to have all His fullness dwell in Him, and through Him to reconcile everything to Himself by making peace through the blood of His cross–whether things on earth or things in heaven. And you were once alienated and hostile in mind because of your evil actions. But now He has reconciled you by His physical body through His death, to present you holy, faultless, and blameless before Him”— (Colossians 1:15-22)

Do you see the order of life in this passage. Jesus in the center of life. All things (ALL THINGS) are created by Him and For Him. So He will use all things to get us to understand His order so that we can be, “holy, faultless and blameless”! What an awesome God we serve! This leads me to another question, “Is your home and home of peace and rest  or palace of stress” This is effected by many things, Attitude, trust, personalities, wither it’s clean or not and who is at the center of your home. I truly believe that who is in the center is the most critical of them all. If it is not Jesus you will be feeling stress or a lack of peace. Maybe it is time to reorder your home? Take some time to ask Jesus to to show you how He wants this to be accomplished.

Here is an exercise for you to try. Take a piece of chalk and go outside and draw a big circle. Then Place everything that is out of order in your life in that circle and ask Jesus to reorder what is in the circle How long will it take you to find your self in that circle? If you don’t start with yourself then you will not see a reordering in your life. Because your reordering process is out of order. Many of us would try to put people and things in that circle and we would still feel like things are not in it’s proper place and stress not peace would rule your house. OK, you don’t have to really go outside and draw a circle with chalk but you get the point. Just some thoughts as I learn to walk this life with Jesus.

I pray that God will lead you to a circle and that you will give Jesus the control, so that you will find that peace and rest that we all need.

In His Grip,
Pastor Jason
