Food for Thought

So, I came across this video and it says so much!

Ok, I know this applies to after we leave church but I was thinking that maybe we need to apply to after our quiet time or anytime we are in His presence.

The Overflow of the Heart

Greetings,

It has been a while since I have posted. There seems to be not enough time in the day to get everything done. I sat down this morning to write something and I went blank. I have been overwhelmed with the Spirit’s moving in us as of late. Maybe I need to just share what is overflowing out of my heart because of God’s grace for us.

Gratitude is the main thing that is overflowing my heart. I am so grateful that God is pouring out on us. I have a strong sense of gratitude for all of the people that God has put in my life and for what each of you mean to me. I thought that I loved each of you as strong as I could but it is even felt greater in my heart! I am so thankful for each of you and I am amazed that we GET to do this thing called “life” together.

PEOPLE!

Well, I have been reindexally quiet here in Facebook land for the last several weeks. I have spent the time just reading and watching how people are responding to all the stuff that is going on in the world right now. To be honest I have been disappointed in the way many Christians have responded to these issues. It seems like hard issues that we see going on in the world are an opportunity for people to spread hate, bigotry and selfishness and sadly some use the name of Jesus to do it. But at the same time I have seen many grace filled, mercy filled and sympathy filled post to the people in the middle of these issues. To those I want to say thank you!

I wonder why all we see is the issues and not the people that are in the midst of the issues. People are being killed, hurt and run over.

Our First World Problems

Greetings all,

Just a short blog post about how we in this country cry out for suffering when we most of us truly have no idea what real suffering is. Now don’t get me wrong I know that there are people who suffer greatly but, I guess I am talking about us who whine about our second car going out or our internet is to slow or the fact that the utility bill is too high. Here is the

Here is the the thing, At least we have a car, at least we have the internet and at least we have a house with power and all the conveniences that we take for granted. I am not pointing the finger at anybody but myself here.

Peace or Stress?

IMG_2899Greetings all,

I had an interesting experienced over the last few weeks. We have remodeled our master bedroom. In order for us to do this we had to move our bedroom into our living room. You want to talk about visual disorder and a feeling of stress.

How easy it is for us to let things kind of get out of control. I really did not have a choice about moving all of our stuff out to the living room but how it affected me was really interesting. I had a hard time sleeping and when I did sleep it was without true rest. I woke up just as sleepy as I went to bed. I remember waking up with clinched fist and a clinched jaw.

Forgiveness & Cleansing

As I have been studying this week I have come across something that I thought was telling of the Body of Christ. I think many of us see God’s forgiveness and His cleansing as the same thing. We believe that when we are forgiven we are cleansed from all unrighteousness. look at this passage from 1 John,

We believe that when we are forgiven we are cleansed from all unrighteousness. look at this passage from 1 John, “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9)”.

Here in this passage forgiveness and cleanse are two different things. The word “and” tells us that. Yes, when we confess our sins or idols and we give them to God, He will cleanse us from them, but it may not be right now.

Lent?

Greetings all,

As I was preparing for teaching the youth group this week I realized that today is Ash Wednesday and the beginning of lent. I was wondering if you have ever considered observing lent as a way to deepen your understanding of the cross and resurrection of Christ. I realized that as I had asked you all to prepare your hearts for the Journey of Grace series that we will be starting this weekend. I asked you to think about fasting something or doing something different than you normally do in your private spiritual life. I guess what I am asking if you would take the challenge to take this further than before and continue your fasting through the series. Here is a cool video about lent and it really gets you thinking.

Just something for you to think about as you as God to prepare you for this awesome season.

Do We Long for His Word?

Greetings all,

I posted and article this morning from Relevant Magazine called, “4 Things Jesus Never Said.” It is a good article and it really got me to thinking about all the stuff that we have been taught was is the Bible but not really there. I wounder how many things we could come up with?

Here is a short list of things that aren’t in the Bible that came to my mind:

1. Cleanliness is next to Godliness
2. The Term, “Ask Jesus into Your Heart”
3. The word Trinity ( I am not saying that the belief in the trinity is not in the scripture, I do believe in the Three-In-One understanding of God. But the word is not in the Book!)
4. The word rapture
5. The belief that when you are Christian EVERYTHING is EASY!

Preparing for the Tabernacle

Hello all,

Here at The Lighthouse church, we are getting ready to go through the study of the Tabernacle in the Old Testament. As I have been studying a thought came to me and I want to share it with you. In the bible, Jesus uses the picture of  a garden or soil for the human heart, remember the teaching on reaping and sowing?

He teaches that the heart that takes the message of the Gospel is fertile and worked soil. The understanding here is that the person has allowed God, by the work of the Holy Spirit, to get them ready for the message (Yes, this story talks about hearing the Salvation message but it is also talking about the believer who God is trying to mold closer to the person of Jesus – to be more Christ-like).
